These convert light into DC power. It does this when light hits the active material in a silicon cell. This frees an electron which causes current to flow to the inverter.
Solar modules are grouped together to make a solar array which increases voltage as most inverters run on a higher DC voltage for higher efficiency. The exact configuration of the solar array is determined by the input voltage range of the inverter and takes into account the array output voltage at very low and very high temperatures.
